Olympian Matt Reed and Ironman 70.3 World Champion Andy Potts will be attending this year’s Gateway to the Bay Triathlon. Both athletes will captain their own relay teams and raise money for Jenny’s Light. Jenny’s Light is a charity set up by Becky Lavelle (USA Triathlon’s 2008 Non-ITU Athlete of the year) in memory of her sister. Jenny’s Light helps women dealing with Postpartum Mood Disorders. Spots to Team Reed and Team Potts will be auctioned off via Ebay starting mid February. Team Reed will have a Swim and Bike spot and Team Potts will have a Bike and Run Spot. All money raised will go directly to Jenny’s Light.

Introducing the Memorial Hermann Tri-Texas Race Series!

Pushing the triathlon envelope further in Houston Onurmark has developed a new race series named “Tri-Texas.” In 2010 Tri-Texas participants (those who register at once for all 3 races) will be rewarded with discounted race entries (during registration) and a special prize during the Houston Triathlon & Duathlon for participation in all 3 events.

In 2011 we will introduce a points system and have end of year awards highlighting those that not only did all 3 series races but also those who competed at the highest levels. Different races “may” enter and exit the series making it more exciting and giving Tri-Texas a face lift every year.

2010 Tri-Texas Race Series: Gateway, Bridgeland, & Houston

The Memorial Hermann Gateway to the Bay Triathlon Festival is a three day, two distance event that starts off our multi-sport season. Pick either the sprint race on Saturday or the ESCAPE from Alcatraz qualifying Olympic Distance Race on Sunday. Matty Reed and Andy Potts will be joining us for a speaking engagement, autograph signing, clinic, and their own charity relays on Sunday for the Olympic distance race.

The 2nd Annual Memorial Hermann Bridgeland Triathlon is our second triathlon event of the season. This event takes place within the beautiful Bridgeland Community in Cypress. Bridgeland boasts a point to point swim, simple/flat bike course, and a partial trail run with shade. This event sold out fast last year so be sure to register early to make sure you get in on the action in 2010.

The Memorial Hermann Houston Triathlon & Duathlon finishes out our 3-Race Triathlon Series in grand fashion. This first year event will be brought to you from Towne Lake in Cypress, Texas. In coordination with Towne Lake, Lonestar Community College, and the Berry Center we will be bringing you Houston’s Premiere Triathlon. Every major city has their own triathlon, now it’s Houston’s turn. Don’t miss out on the first year of this soon to be legendary event!
